MARINE SURVEYS

Bunker Surveys

We conduct all types of bunker surveys. We determine the correct quantity of bunker fuels on board by sounding or ullaging all bunker tanks, taking into account vessels calibration and trimming tables and the current fuel oil temperature. We also perform bunker delivery surveys in port and thus verify the supplied quantity of bunker fuels by measuring the bunker barge and all relevant bunker tanks on board the seagoing vessel.

Draught Surveys

We conduct precise draught surveys of ocean going vessels in order to determine the exact cargo weight which was loaded or discharged.

Cargo Damage Surveys

We survey all kinds of cargo damage caused by irregularities prior to or during transportation, such as:

  • unsuitable carrying temperatures during transportation
  • physical damage caused during packing or handling
  • infestation by fungi, bacteria and vermin
  • deterioration during transit due to inherent vice
  • inadequate stowage
  • shifting of cargo due to insufficient securing
  • wetting damage caused by sea, rain or condensation water
  • incorrect ventilation settings
  • insufficient cooling on reefer vessels or in reefer containers
  • liquid cargo spillage

Pre-Loading Surveys

We conduct pre-loading surveys in order to ascertain the pre-shipment condition of any cargo, we determine measurements and necessary lashing forces

Loading Surveys

Heavy bulk cargo comprises large items which are too heavy or voluminous to be transported within common standardized transportation units or handled by normally equipped ships. Typically, these cargoes are: equipment for the offshore industry, generators, transformers, boilers, locomotives or yachts.

We provide the following services:

  • Analysis of cargo and vessel’s drawings to identify possible lashing patterns and securing arrangements
  • Calculation of the required lashing forces
  • Execution of a pre-loading survey to ascertain the pre-shipment condition
  • Inspection of cargo holds, deck areas and lifting equipment
  • Inspection of the intended dunnage and lashing material
  • Monitoring the loading and securing process
  • Issue of lashing certificates
  • Inspection of cargo condition upon arrival and monitoring of discharge operation

Discharge Surveys

Cargo Securing Surveys

We inspect all kind of already loaded and secured cargoes on flat rack containers, inside standard containers or on board of vessels and issue cargo securing certificates in order to guarantee that cargoes are stowed and secured according to vessels cargo securing manual and/ or the code of safe practice for cargo stowage and securing (CSS-Code)

Container Condition Surveys

We inspect the condition of containers in order to make sure that the containers are suitable to be loaded with the intended cargo or we determine damage which the container suffered during cargo transportation.

On-/Off-Hire Surveys

We are regularly engaged by parties involved in vessel charters. We inspect the vessel from stem to stern, recording relevant information and issuing a thorough report of the vessels condition upon (re)delivery.

By having an impartial and professional report of the vessel’s condition, the parties involved with a charter have an impartial point of reference in the event of any later dispute. The general condition of the vessel is inspected as well as any particular areas of importance as requested. In addition, where appropriate the main vessel’s certificates are also checked and the validity recorded.

P&I Surveys

We perform all kind of P&I Surveys, such as

  • P&I entry or annual condition surveys
  • bunker quality / quantity claims
  • accidents on board
  • collisions with other vessels or fixed port installations
  • MARPOL violations, oil spills
  • contamination of liquid cargoes (‘off-spec’)
  • quantity differences
  • cargo wetting by sea, ballast, bilge or rainwater
  • cargo contamination or cargo damage by wrong handling or transportation
  • blocking of cargo due to wrong carrying temperature
  • wetting damage by ingress of seawater due to non-weathertight hatch covers

Hold Cleanliness Surveys

Before loading dry bulk cargoes it is important to inspect the condition of vessels cargo holds. Cargo holds must be dry, clean and completely free of cargo residues or scaling paint or rust.

We are experienced with all types of vessels and dry bulk cargoes. If  our inspection was successful we issue a “Load-Readiness-Certificate” prior to commencement of loading.

General Average

In case of a General Average ("GA") declaration by the owner we assess the amount of damage/ loss ocurred and give estimation and valuation of respective liabilities, we check all incoming invoices, provide consultation and perform an evaluation of vessels cargo manifests

Cargo Tank Inspections

Before loading liquid cargoes it is important to inspect vessels cargo tanks in order to avoid "off specification" claims in the port of destination. Cargo tanks are professionally and thoroughly inspected by our staff prior to loading operation in order to verify the condition and suitability to carry the intended cargo.

Hull & Machinery Surveys

We inspect damage to vessels hull or machinery, estimate repair costs, discuss repair possibilities with the owners and the classification society, issue repair tenders and monitor the repairs until completion.
